The Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita Park in California on November 6-7 will be the first time Britain based online wagering customers will be included in the US pools.

Betfair, recently purchased the TVG Horse Racing Television Network for $50 million and is now the world’s largest online betting site catering to 2.5 million customers.

Betfair offers alternative exchange betting on sporting events, where customers place bets and establish odds with each other.

Due to the US prohibition of Internet gambling, wagers can not be accepted from American clientele, but Betfair hopes the deal will increase their profile in US racing circuits ahead of future liberalization of the US market.

Last year’s race brought in approximately $17 million into the US pools from gamblers abroad. This agreement is apart of an effort to grow the simulcast wagering market for the Breeders’ Cup.

With the increasing number of international horses participating in the race, interest levels and wagering form around the world allow the championships to maintain the highest possible purse levels for the event.

The Breeders’ Cup will receive an undisclosed percentage of revenue from Betfair customers on wagers placed on its races.
