Montgomery County deputies in Harrison Township, Ohio raided a local internet café on Thursday that was running an illegal gaming operation.
The Player’s Club Internet Café housed 50 personal computers tied to a network and rigged to display games of chance. Patrons were asked to purchase phone cards for $20, which gave them credits to gamble.
According to authorities, the illegal casino took thousands of dollars from unsuspecting gamers. The establishment used a network that was programmed to payout on new accounts only, leaving returning customers no chance of doubling their money.
In additional to the computers seized, deputies confiscated $1,500 cash and $47,000 from the bank account belonging to the business.
While illegally operating a gambling house is only a misdemeanor charge in Ohio, county officials invested a lot of time and money, in order to close down this business.
Charges will be pressed against owner and operator Ghazwan (Gus) Briko and Sonia Perez, however deputies say no charges will be pressed against gamers.
