The Kansas Lottery Gaming Facility Review Board has meet with Lakes Entertainment, Inc. to discuss an addition to the proposed casino plan.
The board has questioned whether or not a casino without a hotel could be designated as a tourist destination.
In 2007 Kansas passed a law allowing gaming projects to be pursued, under the guidelines that they were considered a destination project and would encourage tourism.
In order to secure the deal developers made a firm commitment to open a 100 room hotel by March 2012, approximately six months after gambling starts.
The group estimates the casino project to cost $225 million, before construction cost associated with building the hotel.
While they were not able to provide a timetable for construction they have promised to actively pursuing a deal with multiple hotel companies. However the Board remains unsure if they will allow the casino development to proceed.
The board will vote on the acceptance of the plan in December, once clearer information on the hotel can be provided.
