Rhode Islands Twin River greyhound track and slot parlor, in Lincoln has been granted permission by the Department of Administrations Lottery division to allow 24 hour gambling 7 days a week.
The owners of Twin River filed for bankruptcy protection in June under a half billion dollars of debit. Governor Don Carcieri agreed to support 24 hour gambling at the facility as a part of a restructuring plan.
Legislation met last week and lawmakers initiated steps to increase the town of Lincoln’s share of slot revenue, with no plans to increase hours of operation.
Gary Sasse head of the lottery division, felt strongly that his administration was authorized to extend the hours of gaming for the facility in order to protect the states revenue and adhere to the bankruptcy agreement reached with Twin River Lenders.
The Slot parlors’ 4,750 gaming terminals provide the state with approximately 61 cents out of every dollar that is wagered, after winnings. The gaming facility is the states third largest source of income.
Twin River will initially juggle employee’s shifts to extend hours within 10 to 14 days.
