The World Series of Poker Championships held at the Rio Hotel-Casino in Las Vegas made history not only for one lucky player but for the tournament as well.

The tournament began with 6,494 players in July. Sunday morning ended a 17 hour marathon session that placed Frenchmen Antoine Saout in third with a winning of $3.5 million. Joe Cada and Darvin Moon embarked on the longest no limit Texas Hold ‘em main event final table in history, lasting over three hours and ending early Tuesday morning.

The win marked the biggest comeback in the tournament’s history, winning first place with a pair of nines while holding only 2 million in chips in the final round. Cada played about 90 hands head to head with second place winner Darvin Moon, who took home $5.1 million.

The first place jack pot of $8.5 million makes Joe Cada the youngest champion in the tournament’s 40 year history. Cada was raised in Detroit Michigan and dropped out of college to pursue online poker full time. His aptitude for the game won him hundreds of thousands of dollars in other tournaments prior to entering the World Series of Poker.
