Last week a compliant was brought against the Palms Casino Resort by the state attorney general’s office. The complaint cited the resort for hosting tournaments “without adequate planning and follow up,” and failing “to prevent a situation that might reflect negatively” on the state and casino industry.
In 2007 the resort allowed two poker tournaments to be hosted by third party organizations, at their casino, using their gaming license. Randall Sayre of the state Gaming Control Board said he didn’t want outside operators using licensed Nevada casinos to “legitimize less than legitimate types of programs”.
One complaint stated that a charity event hosted by Michael Eakman & Associates to benefit the Jewish Community Center of Southern Nevada failed to register with the state and took four months to pay the Center its share.
Another tournament hosted by the United States Poker League failed to pay players $450,416 in prize money because 22 checks from the tournament’s organizer bounced.
Executives of Palms Casino has since paid all winners in full and promised to keep a closer watch on future tournaments.
The Palms was fined $75,000 by the Nevada Gaming Commission and $25,000 to the state Gaming Control Board to cover investigation cost.
