Although Internet wagering remains an uncertainty in the U.S. the annual G2E Future Watch survey released results on the topic this week.
The G2E Future Watch Series is in its eight year and has the sole purpose of highlighting current and forthcoming trends within the gaming industry.
President and CEO of the American Gaming Association, Frank J. Fahrenkopf commented on the release by saying “Internet gambling is an issue that continues to garner significant attention. This year’s edition of the Future Watch Series considers how the legalization and regulation of online wagering in the U.S. might impact our country’s existing casinos, as well as Internet gambling markets overseas.”
Congressman Barney Frank and Senator Robert Menendez have both proposed legislation bills to congress this year to pass the legalization of online games of skill, such as poker.
29% of the industries experts poled responded that they thought that the potential revenue that could be generated could reach $18 to $20 billion by 2014 if the bill was passed this year, however 50% thought that it would be at least a year or two before the law was changed.
Despite the concerns of some legislators, many of the experts surveyed felt that effective safeguards could be implemented to combat fraud and promote responsible play.
