In 2006 The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board rejected a casino project backed by Dave LeVan because of its proximity to the Gettysburg battlefield.
Now, he is proposing a project near the Maryland border on land that is used as a commercial recreation and overnight complex.
LeVan and a group of investors are seeking a Category III gaming license to operate a casino at the Eisenhower Inn and Conference Center in Cumberland Township. The land is zoned for mixed commercial development requiring approval from the township’s zoning board; however plans have not yet been submitted.
A Category III license restricts the size of the facility to no more than 500 machines and would limit patronage to hotel guest and pass holders only.
The Gaming Board has confirmed the availability of one license, but says the group did not meet the application deadline, further consideration would require the process to be re-opened.
According to a first year legislator the board is currently considering a project presented by an inside connection dubbed as the “Reading Crowne Plaza”.
