Maryland Casinos were dealt another blow this week when the states second largest slot parlor failed to meet a deadline to provide updated development plans and an additional $19.5 million licensing fee.

Baltimore City Entertainment Group the planned developer of the Baltimore facility requested additional time form the panel as they attempt to secure another investor.

“We’re obviously going to have to consider whether to grant this request,” Donald C. Fry, chairman of the state panel said. “We have expressed our concern that this has been dragging on for some time.”

In February the group was the only bidder to submit an application for the 500 machine gaming facility near the stadium, and over the summer, they proposed to build a 3,750 machine casino in a new location a few blocks away from the original site.

However plans have never been submitted to the state for approval, nor have they submitted the necessary fees to receive a gaming license.

The state commission plans to meet next week to discuss re-opening the bidding for the Baltimore site.

Last year voters approved gambling and the commission has awarded three of the five licenses, however the fate of a casino proposed near Arundel Mills Mall also hangs in the balance as Anne Arundel Council members have not approved the rezoning of the property to allow development.
