The House approved a preliminary vote of 98-94 to a proposed gambling expansion legalizing table games for all Pennsylvania casinos and the creation of a new category III resort license.
The state has included a taxable rate of profits from table games including blackjack, craps and roulette at 14% through May 2011 and another 2% for host communities. In June 2011 the tax rate would fall back to 12%.
However gambling establishments would be required to pay an additional $16.5 million fee to obtain the expanded licenses.
The holder of the new resort license would be required to pay only $7.5 million, as the licensing criteria allows for a smaller gaming site and will only be allowed for hotel guest.
$320 million is expected to be raised for the sate in the first two fiscal years through taxes and additional license fees.
Legislatures are expected to cast their final votes today and then send the bill to the Senate for final approval.
However according to a spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi, the bill will likely face changes in the Senate before final approval is granted, as he believes senators are unlikely to authorize the additional license.
