SBE Entertainment owner of the Sahara hotel and casino on the Las Vegas Strip has announced plans to close rooms in two of its towers during the winter season due to low demand.
Verena King a spokeswomen for the casino operator said the casino will remain open for gambling and the main Tangiers tower will continue to take reservations, however the two oldest towers will remain closed until business improves.
Last week the resort shut down its buffet, as it does at this time every year, to help reduce expenses and salaries during a slow season.
The Sahara first opened in 1952 and was one of the most famous hotels on the Las Vegas Strip attracting superstars like Judy Garland, Liza Minnelli, Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack.
King was unable to report if the closures would result in layoffs of staff members.
The announcement comes just day after Binion’s Gambling Hall & Hotel in downtown Las Vegas closed its 365 guest rooms and cut 100 jobs as a cost-cutting move. Binion’s casino remains open.
