The economic downturn has affected many in the gaming industry from Las Vegas to Atlantic City, recent reports say the Siena Hotel Spa Casino in downtown Reno faces potential closure.
Bar-K Inc, the lender for the resort’s mortgage filed a notice on December 11, citing that the owners have defaulted on payment of the original loan of $50 million and have threatened a foreclosure sale.
The $70 million resort opened in July 2001 along the Truckee River but in August 2009 the resort had converted much of its casino floor into a nightclub style entertainment center and laid-off all of its 18 full time dealers and several other part time dealers.
Siena has said in a statement that it “has not remained insulated” referring to the effects of the ailing economy, but “comprehensive reorganization efforts” were under way to prevent possible foreclosure on the resort.
