The much-anticipated showdown that was tentatively scheduled for March 13th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather has been called off.
According to Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, “The fight’s off.”
Arum, who promotes Pacquiao, said from Las Vegas that the fight died after a last-ditch attempt at mediation between Top Rank and Golden Boy, which represents Mayweather, failed in an effort to determine the drug-testing protocol.
Apparently, Mayweather’s camp wouldn’t budge off their desire for random testing all the way until the fight. Pacquiao would not agree to the random testing after being accused of using performance-enhancing drugs by Mayweather.
Sources say that originally, Pacquiao didn’t want any blood testing.
However, he had agreed to take three blood tests: one during the week of the kickoff news conference, which would have taken place next week; one random test to be conducted no later than 30 days before the fight; and a final test in his dressing room after the fight.
Mayweather would have been subject to the same testing procedures, but he would not agree.
Boxing experts think that there is still a slim chance that this fight will happen, but most agree that it is unlikely.
