Atlantic City’s oldest casino plans to go old school and return $2 blackjack games to the floor for a trial period beginning in February.

$2 blackjack tables were once common in Atlantic City, but over time have been replaced with higher limit games to increase profit.

William T. Sommeling, Casino Control Commission board member said that he often receives calls from casino patrons urging the return of low stakes games and recalled when, “There was a time when there were more low-limit tables.”

Table games director for Resorts Atlantic City, Kevin Brown says the low limit tables will target beginning players that may be intimidated by higher limit games and would normally opt out of the action.

However those looking for a seat at the table will have to pay a quarter a hand to cover what the casino refers to as “operating costs”.

On Wednesday the New Jersey Casino Control Commission approved the fee, however one member voted against the fee adding that at 25 cents a hand the casino would more than break even.

Bets on the table will start at $2 and can be increased in $1 increments up to $5. Once wagers reach $5 the stakes can only be raised in $5 increments. The fee will be waived on $5 wagers or higher.
