The approved developer and operator of the $700 million proposed casino at the Kansas Speedway has run into a road block with The Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission.
Governor Mark Parkinson has awarded an extension of 70 days for the commission to tie up loose ends and complete the background checks on Kansas Entertainment that were initially due last week.
Kansas Entertainment is a joint venture between International Speedway Corp and Penn National Gaming, who was granted approval by state regulators to build the casino back in December.
Commission spokesman Mike Deines said there’s no serious issue, but more time is needed.
The Hollywood themed development scheduled to open in early 2012 can not move forward until the checks are completed.
The proposed development plans are for a casino, hotel, spa, convention center, entertainment and retail district at the Kansas Speedway.
