Indiana’s Gambling operators who opposed the purposed legislation to allow riverboat casinos to move in land, have gotten their way.
Out of the state’s 12 casino operators who are represented by the Casino Association of Indiana, 8 opposed the provision arguing that they have already invested large sums of money to expand vessels and build hotels and that allowing others to move in land would be unfair.
The provision came about because of Legislatures concerns with competition from future out of state casinos, however those opposed say the measure will only build further competition in state, which would be far worse.
The Senate Appropriations Committee charged with the preparation of the bill, have pulled the land based provision out on Tuesday and passed the measure on to the Senate.
While lawmakers could put the measure back into Senate Bill 405, Appropriations Chairman Luke Kenley predicted that the proposal would not receive enough votes in the chamber to pass.
