The Alabama Supreme Court ruled 7-2 on Thursday to toss out a court order blocking a raid by Governor Bob Riley’s gambling task force on the state’s largest casino.

On January 29th a Macon County Judge issued the order preventing the raid on Victoryland slot casino.

“This is another victory for the rule of law,” Gov. Bob Riley said Thursday night.

However, shortly before the court issued its ruling, Victoryland closed all facilities including the slot parlor, dog track, restaurants and hotel to keep the Task force from returning without a search warrant.

“Victoryland remains closed and anyone coming onto the property without a search warrant will be considered a trespasser. This is fair warning to John Tyson that entering private property without a search warrant is illegal,” VictoryLand attorney Peter J. Tepley said.

Task force commander John Tyson has not revealed his next step but said he was reviewing the complete closure of Victoryland.

In an effort to prevent the continued closures of the state’s bingo parlors operating illegal slot machines, a constitutional amendment has been proposed to allow state voters to decide if legalized electronic bingo games should be permitted.

The amendment will be included on the ballot for November 2nd general election and would create a state gaming commission to regulate games and have the machines taxed.

Lt. Gov. Jim Folsom Jr. said Thursday the Legislature needs to define what is bingo and what is not and needs to act because the bingo issue “continues to monopolize Alabama’s time, attention, and valuable state resources.”
