It has been a long time in the NBA since there were so many top stars to see on All Star Weekend. There may have not been this many top player of all time type stars on the court since the days of Magic, Bird, and Jordan.
This year represents somewhat of the changing of the guard, not only in the game, but in the NBA itself. Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan have carried the torch in the league since Jordan and Magic have left, and now they are handing off to new superstars.
It is not that these two players are not still at the top of their game, they are. Both Bryant and Duncan will get strong consideration for being the MVP this year, and Bryant may actually win the award, but that is not the point.
Younger stars such as Dwight Howard, Chris Paul, and of course, LeBron James are ready to take over. They are delivering highlight reel plays on a nightly basis and will be the ones to carry the league into the future.
The all star game on Sunday will provide the showcase and should be one of the more memorable games in recent history. It is, after all, history that will be changed when the baton is passed from the old to the new.
