Singapore is preparing for the opening of its first Integrated Resort, as the region attempts to lure gamblers away from lavish resorts in Macau, Malaysia and Australia.
Genting Singapore will open its Resorts World Sentosa casino for a “soft opening” to a restricted number of guest early on February 14 and open to the public at 12:18 p.m the same day.
The opening if the $6.59 billion resort located on Sentosa Island off of Singapore’s southern coast will coincide with the start of the Chinese New Year.
While Resorts World has already opened four of the resort’s six hotels as well as a number of restaurants and shops the date will mark the first opportunity for gamblers to place wagers in the casino, as well as get a sneak peak of the regions first theme Park.
Universal Studios, located at the resort will open at 5 p.m. for a sneak peak although none of the 20 rides or shows will be ready.
The park will have an eight day preview period and has been reported to have already sold out of tickets for four of the days.
The regions gambling restrictions requires the casino to collect a S$100 levy fee per 24 hour period.
