In New Jersey, Atlantic City casinos have posted another decline in business.

In January, the city’s 11 casinos won just $294.2 million, that is an 8.5 percent decrease from the first month of 2009.

Only two AC casinos posted increases in their winning for the month. Showboat was up 4.4 percent, while Harrah’s Marina showed a 2.8 percent increase.

In an effort to boast revenue, the New Jersey Legislature is looking at the possibility of accepting wagers on sporting events at horse racing tracks and Atlantic City casinos.

The idea is to allow gamblers to make bets in person, on the telephone or via the Internet.

There would be restrictions on college games that take place in New Jersey, in fact, there would be no betting on any games with Garden State teams involved, regardless of where the games are being played.

Before any sports bets can be taken in New Jersey, there will have to be changes in both state and federal law.
