Baltimore, Maryland is joining the ranks of cities and states looking to expand gambling as a means to increase budget deficiencies and become more competitive.

During a meeting this week, Baltimore Mayor Rawlings-Blake gave support to Legislatures hoping to include table games in the state’s slot program.

Baltimore is one of five locations approved by voters in 2008 for a slot casino, however the cities facility has been stalled after a group of investors failed to produce required fees and detailed plans.

Del. Frank Turner has recently introduced a measure calling for a referendum to be added to the ballot in November to allow voters to decide if the constitution should be amended to allow games like blackjack, poker, roulette and craps.

While many support the measure some like house speaker Michael E. Busch feel that it is too early to discuss expanding gaming, “We have not gotten a nickel out of a slot machine yet. Before we talk about expanding, we ought to have the opportunity to complete the licensing process.”
