Foxwoods Resort Casino and MGM Grand at Foxwoods reported January slot revenue of $51.6 million to the Connecticut State Division of Special Revenue today.

The amount represents a 2.5% decrease in slot win and a decrease of 3.3% in total slot handle compared to the same period in 2009.

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation used that revenue to make a $13.1 million payment, increasing total contributions to the state to approximately $2.9 billion since slots were introduced at Foxwoods in 1993.

Despite the slight decreases, Foxwoods and MGM Grand at Foxwoods continue to outpace the national gaming industry, maintaining a competitive advantage over other major gaming destinations including Las Vegas and Atlantic City which sustained year-over-year revenue declines of nearly 10%.

“We’re delighted that Foxwoods and MGM Grand at Foxwoods continue to be a top choice among consumers,” said Michael Speller, President of Mashantucket Pequot Gaming Enterprises. “Thanks to our superior facilities, amenities and top-notch staff, we continue to see positive indicators for our business including sold-out shows and concerts and near-capacity occupancy rates at our hotels during a time that’s proving more difficult for many other properties.”
