Back in December, 21-year-old Cornell University senior Brian Hastings made a name for himself in the online poker world when he took home a $4.18 million prize from a Swedish player known only by his screen name of Isildur1.

Hastings, an economics student from Hanover, Pa., took away the huge amount of winnings from his one-on-one, pot-limit Omaha match against Isildur1 on the popular Internet site Full Tilt Poker.

He later admitted to ESPN that he used a report prepared from a database of hand histories incorporating hands played by himself and fellow poker players Brian Townsend and Cole South.

Under Full Tilt Poker’s End User License Agreement, a player is prohibited from using any kind of external player assistance which are designed to provide an advantage to player. This includes non-software-based databases such as a database of hand histories.

Apparently, Full Tilt took action following Hasting admission and suspended Townsend for 30 days, but that was the only recourse the website could take for the violations.
