Federal authorities moved to seize a Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania sports bar that they say is being used as a front for an illegal online gambling empire.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office claimed Pat Patte Jr. operated an internet sports gambling website and they say he used Patte’s Sports Bar as a place to pay out and collect bets made on the web.
According to the FBI, investigators have been making undercover bets on the Web site, www.willtobet.com, since June 2009.
Two of the bar’s employees were charged with conspiracy and Patte was charged with one count of conspiring to use wire communications to transmit gambling information.
Patte was released and in currently vacationing in the Bahamas.
Patte received approval from a federal magistrate Wednesday to travel on a group trip to the Caribbean for a six-day stay on Paradise Island despite the objection of the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
