Canadian Lottery Corporations are hoping that government-endorsed games will provide some credibility to the online gaming industry.
Loto-Quebec has announced that they will launch an Internet poker website this fall in partnership with Atlantic and British Columbia lottery corporations.
The online casino website will be available to gamblers throughout the three regions, however each corporation will be responsible to cater it to their province.
The lottery corporation anticipates profits of up to $50 million by 2012.
Both the Atlantic Lottery Corporation and British Columbia have already launched individual websites to promote online wagering through Bingo and Poker forums.
However, other provincial lottery corporations have not yet joined the bandwagon.
Ontario Gaming and Lottery Corporation has been investigating the pursuit of the online betting industry but said that “No decision has been made”.
Other Regions overseen by the Western Canada Lottery Corporation likely will not see online sites as Kevin Van Egdom says, “Nothing has been written off forever, but we have no plans to do that. We’re responsible for offering lottery games and selling lottery products through authorized retailers, where you buy them in person. Each region makes its own decision and Quebec’s doesn’t play into ours.”
