Despite ongoing delays, Las Vegas Sands has announced that the Marina Bay Sands Singapore will be ready for opening on April 27, 2010.
The casino developer has faced continued struggles with construction due to heavy rains and the bankruptcy of some of the projects sub contractors, leading them to change plans and open in phases.
Phase one of the $5.5 billion resort is planned to open with 963 hotel rooms, a portion of the shopping mall and convention center, restaurants and casino, pending no further delays in construction and necessary regulatory approvals being met.
The company’s spokeswomen said that there is still no update on the group’s pending gaming license application with Singapore’s Casino Regulatory Authority.
“We are intently focused on meeting our construction timeline and preparing our team for opening and operating this extraordinary destination,” Mr. Arasi said in a statement.
Phase two is expected to open on June 23 and consist of additional retail space, dining venues and the Sands SkyPark.
Rival gaming company Genting Singapore Ltd. opened the regions first Integrated Resort earlier this month. The two casino companies will operate the only two resorts properties in the Southeast Asia city-state and will operate as such for a period of 30 years.
