St. Louis’s newest casino property has received licensing approval by the Missouri Gaming Commission today.

Following a walk through inspection of the property and gambling operations the Commission unanimously voted to approve the license needed to open the $357 million River City Casino at 2 p.m on March 4.

Prior to today’s vote the casino owner, Pinnacle Entertainment, gave a presentation outlining the steps taken during construction to satisfy the commission’s requirements.

Garry Earls, chief operating officer for St. Louis County, and Denny Coleman, director of the St. Louis County Economic Council, also spoke in favor of River City’s opening.

Pinnacle’s petition to city council members to change the name of a one mile stretch of Carondelet and Weber roads, has also been approved.

Originally the name change was opposed by residents who objected to the idea of their address being used as advertisement, however the city council, resident, and Pinnacle agreed to drop the word casino and change the name to “River City Boulevard”.
