With a budget deficit in the billions, one Canadian Province may be looking at gambling to solve some of their economic problems.

Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty is said to a be considering state-sponsored Internet gambling as a way that his province take a cut from the online poker business.

“I would want to talk to the minister about that,” McGuinty told reporters. “I think we’ve got to make a call on that. It’s not something we can avoid.”

This comes as a bit of a surprise considering McGuinty’s hard line stance on other moral issues like alcohol sales at corner markets.

So, what is the difference between gambling and alcohol.

The Premier feels that the difference ethically between the two is that corner alcohol sales can be controlled, whereas online gambling is already taking place, and will continue to do so.

McGuinty thinks that by expanding and supporting online gambling, revenue could significantly increase.
