The Colorado Limited Gaming Control Commission approved a rule change allowing casinos to offer blackjack players a lower payout.

Several of the state’s casinos have requested regulators to lower the minimum payout to tilt the cards in their favor after pocketing less-than-expected returns from looser regulations that took effect last July.

Those regulations allowed casinos to raise the maximum bet from $5 to $100, stay open around the clock, and add craps and roulette.

The industry requested the commission to approve a 6-to-5 payout instead of the current 3-to-2. The change would reduce the payoff on a winning $10 wager from $15 to $12.

Don Burmania, a spokesman for the Colorado Division of Gaming told regulators that “Six-to-5 is common in Vegas now, so the industry wants to be consistent with other jurisdictions.”

The commission approved the revision with a 3-1 vote by the five member panel, one commissioner was absent.

The rule change can be implemented in the casinos as of April 30.
