Mississippi regulators have paved the way for Tunica to begin development on its 10th casino.
The Mississippi Gaming Commission granted site approval this week, for the proposed $75 million Sportsman Casino and Lodge.
Abston-Mckay Ventures LLC. and Lakes Entertainment Inc. said construction could begin this summer with the gaming facility opening by late summer 2011.
Developers have proposed to renovate the existing 220 room hotel and build a new casino that will include approximately 50,000 square feet of gaming space.
Abston-McKay Ventures will “refurbish the entire site and re-orient the property towards Sam’s Town, Hollywood and Resorts casinos, which will significantly enhance the casino strip area,” Abston-McKay Venture’s attorney, Wilson Carroll, said in a statement.
The site approval is contingent on the company establishing financing and the start of construction.
“Even in these challenging times, Mississippi continues to be an attractive venue for this industry,” said Jerry St. Pe, chairman of the state Gaming Commission.
