Even with the nation being hit hard by recession, the casino business continues to grow.
According to the Mississippi Gaming Commission, the site for the proposed $250 million CanCan Casino Resort and Spa in D’Iberville, Mississippi was approved Thursday.
“No question at all that this was a legal site and it was a relatively easy decision,” said commission chairman Jerry St. Pe. “It meets the zoning and it’s properly placed. This is the beginning of renewed interest in casino development along the Gulf Coast.”
The CanCan is to sit on a 5-acre waterfront site overlooking Biloxi Back Bay.
Upon completion, the casino is slated to be a 60,000-square-foot facility featuring 1,800 slots and 40 gaming tables, four restaurants, a French spa, 250 rooms and suites.
According to city leaders, the casino could employ more than 1,000 people and help revitalize the city.
“If everything goes smoothly, it could be built in as early as 18 months,” St. Pe said.
