The Seneca Indian Nation has completed it’s $9 million expansion of their temporary casino in Buffalo, New York.
While they were celebrating the opening of the enlarged Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino, their thoughts were also focused on the tribe’s plan for a permanent site.
This expansion added 223 slot machines and 5,300 square feet of space to a facility that was visited by more than 500,000 visitors last year. It was the second expansion since the temporary facility opened in 2007.
Tribal officials have said that while plans for a permanent casino and hotel complex remain alive, don’t look for construction to resume on the, projected $333 million venue any time soon.
With the nation’s economy tumbling everyday, they are choosing a more cautious approach until the country’s money problems stabilize.
“The economy is still a big factor,” said Barry Snyder Sr., Seneca Nation president. “We working on the permanent plans everyday, but we aren’t going to make the investment until the credit markets change and soften. We will not put the Nation at risk.”
