Rotate Black, a resort development group has proposed a casino development near Gulfport Mississippi’s Small Craft Harbor.

Although the company has not submitted an application for a gaming license the proposal has been well received by city council members.

“I’m excited,” Councilman Ricky Dombrowski said. “I think the city should be excited.”

The company has signed a letter of intent to lease and develop six areas of land at the site of the former Marine Life Aquarium and Misco Marine.

Initially, a 240 foot by 65 foot gaming vessel will be brought in from Chicago that has 30,000 square feet of gaming space and two restaurants. The ship purchased from Harrah’s Entertainment has undergone a major renovation and can be ready quickly.

“They just did $40 million worth of improvements to it and it will be basically a dock side ship,” said Dombrowski.

Renovations included updating of the exterior, interior decor, mechanical and gaming systems.

Future plans for the site include the development of a land based resort casino.

Rotate Black’s President Dual Cooper says, “While the ship is an attractive, first-class facility, we hope to expand what we have to offer through future development.”

Subject to regulatory approvals and licensing by the Mississippi Gaming Commission, the estimated time of completion for the project is fall 2010.
