British Columbia Premier Gordon Campbell confirmed the construction of a $450 million dollar casino and hotel in Vancouver. This complex is to be located on one of the most desired prime waterfront properties in the city, adjoining BC Place.
Campbell said that the casino will be built beside BC Place and will feature 24 hour gambling options.
That good news for prospective workers in the province. The construction of the casino is expected to provide much needed jobs in the construction industry as well as the service industry.
There are approximately 8,500 new jobs forecasted.
Paragon Gaming, the Las Vegas based gambling group, will close its Edgewater Casino at the Plaza of Nations location and expand into the new location.
The building itself won’t interfere with the famous Vancouver skyline. The hope is that the new casino will generate a more lively downtown atmosphere.
The government is already expecting controversy, however. Many opponents that incoming high rollers and visitors will attract more crime, drugs and prostitution to the area.
Supporters of the casino project, feel that the influx of jobs, economic growth, and property values owners would beneficial to the community.
