Louise Chavez was enjoying playing penny slots at the Fortune Valley Casino in Colorado when lights began flashing and alarms rang out “it sounded like a fire truck, the screen said ’see attendant” she said.
“People were coming up to me and saying I won $42 million,” she added.
However when an attendant responded Chavez was told that the gaming machine she was playing had malfunctioned and she did not win the $42 million jackpot.
Joe Behm the director of marketing for the casino said the machine messed up and random numbers appeared on the screen.
Instead of a cash reward Chavez was given a complimentary room, free breakfast and the $23 that she originally gambled on the machine.
“I played the game, I put my money into the machine, whether it’s $42 million, $42,000 or $4000, I should get what the machine said,” Ms Chavez said.
She said she would push for the jackpot, although the Division of Gaming will need to look at the machine for forensic information in the software to determine if some winning should be paid out.
