The Indiana Gaming Commission reported that overall revenues at Northwest Indiana’s five casinos were down 2.9 percent in March.
Ameristar Casino in East Chicago was the hardest hit with gambling revenue down 21.2% in March due to a loss of $1.5 million at the craps tables.
Casino officials blame the low numbers on the continued closure of the Cline Avenue Bridge late last November.
“It remains our continued hope that through continued collaboration with (Indiana Department of Transportation) and the Cline Avenue Coalition that a timely solution will be realized to offset current and future economic consequences of the closure, and to provide safe and expedient passage to our casino.” said senior vice president and general manager Pete Savage.
Revenue was also down at the Blue Chip in Michigan City by 17.9% to $15.2 million.
However the Horseshoe Casino, Majestic Star I and Majestic Star II reported increases of 7.9%, 4.6% and 11.3%.
Ed Feigenbaum, editor of Indiana Gaming Insight, said if these casinos are holding their own in this economy, it is a positive sign.
