The Nevada Gaming Control Board is on high alert and has issued a warning in a 5 page memorandum to casino operators to be aware of cheaters using their iPhone’s to gain an illegal advantage in Blackjack.
According to the Gaming Control Board, the application that works with the Apple iPhone and the iPod Touch portable music player makes counting cards easier. In using the program, cheaters can get what controllers called a “true count” of the cards that have been dealt.
At the Blackjack table certain card counting techniques can be used to help a player predict cards that have yet to be drawn, thus increasing the likelihood of winning a hand. In Nevada casino’s card counting is not illegal, but using any kind of device to aid in counting cards is a felony.
Nevada was tipped off about the program from gaming regulators in California, where individuals were allegedly caught using the iPhone application in an Indian Casino.
