As the bidding war for Pennsylvania’s remaining category 3 casino license heats up, so does Penn National Gaming’s possibilities.
The casino operator has been selected by two developers seeking the gaming license catering to hotel customers.
Bushkill Group has signed a deal with the gambling operator to finance and manage the Fernwood Resort if selected by state regulators.
In 2007 the group submitted an application for the license, however the proposal was put on hold because of a lack of financing. The recent deal rived the application.
Penn National Gaming will provided needed financing and manage the facility.
“I think that makes it a huge advantage for us. The gaming board knows them. And as a Category 3, we are really driving business from our guests, and the bulk of the business comes from out of state, which is what the state is looking for,” Worthington said.
Penn National Gaming was also selected last week to provide financing and management for the Mason- Dixon Resort & Casino.
So far the total applications for the license is up to four with Penn holding a stake in two.
