In Tallahassee, Florida, the state House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly, 74-39, to approve a gambling compact that is expected to bring at least $1 billion to the state over the next five years.

The agreement between the State of Florida and the Seminole Indians will allow gambling expansion in tribal casinos that will include slot machines and card games at specific locations.

The compact will allow Vegas-style slot machines at all Seminole Casinos and black jack, chemin de fer and baccarat at five of their seven locations. Card games will not be allowed at the Brighton and Big Cypress facilities.

In return, the tribe will pay $150 million a year to the state for two years and a minimum of $223 million for three years there after.

Many feel that this deal will help Florida become the Las Vegas of the Southeast.

The only obstacle left is Charlie Crist’s signature, however with the governor having orchestrated the deal to begin with, that is not expected to be much of a hurtle.
