With many Atlantic City casinos feeling the crunch of the economic recession, some are bending the rules a bit and looking the other way, not turning away potential patrons.
The New Jersey State Casino Control Commission is cracking the whip on casinos that are not playing by the rules these days.
Two Atlantic City casinos were fined $10,000 each for allowing people who had voluntarily barred themselves from the premises to gamble.
In New Jersey as well as many states, there is a program set up to allow people with gambling problems to voluntarily exclude themselves from gambling in casinos.
Once on the excluded list, casinos must then remove players from any mailing lists and make notations in their computer files that these players are ineligible for any kind of credit or complimentary service. Some casinos have “responsible gaming programs” in which they ban these players from the casino all together.
The commission levied fines totaling $20,000 on Bally’s Atlantic City and Caesars Atlantic City for allowing a man who had signed himself onto the self-exclusion list to gamble.
Caesars, the Tropicana Casino and Resort and the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa forfeited more than $3,200 won by a total of 117 underage gamblers.
