Illinois lawmakers are apparently working very hard to strike a deal in the Capitol that would put hundreds of video slot and poker machines at Arlington Park and other horse tracks across the state.

The plan is for tax revenue generated by these machines to provide millions for construction spending that the state so sorely needs.

Supporters see a lot of positives brought to the table by the addition of these gaming machines.

The new legislation could give the tracks a much needed financial boost from the business, local governments and their struggling budgets would get a cut of the profits and the state’s take would help prop up construction.

“We need money for capital construction,” said Barrington Hills Republican Mark Beaubien.

Arlington Park officials say that if a deal could be approved, it would make the track more competitive, bringing in better racing and added jobs.

According to the plan, Arlington Park and other Cook County tracks would get about 1,200 machines, and these gaming stations would have to be based within 300 yards of the track.
