Police are cracking down on illegal gambling operations in Delaware.
Last week, Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement (D.A.T.E.), Delaware State Police and Seaford Police Department, executed two search warrants. The first at Payless Cigarette Outlet located on West Stein Highway in Seaford and the second on Laurel Cigarette Outlet located on Sussex Highway in Laurel.
According to police, authorities had been watching these establishments for some time.
Agents had conducted a six month long investigation for illegal gambling, during which undercover officers received unauthorized cash pay-outs from illegal gaming machines, like video poker and electronic bingo.
In the raids, D.A.T.E. agents seized 7 gaming machines and confiscated nearly $4,000 in cash.
While charges are pending, the legitimate side of these businesses remain open.
Law enforcement officials expect to formally charge owners and involved employees of the establishments with “Providing a Premise for Gambling”; “Possession of a Gambling Device”; and “Conspiracy in the 3rd Degree.”
