Pinnacle Entertainment is again showing its indecisiveness when it comes to the President Riverboat casino in St. Louis.
After spending months fighting the Missouri Gaming Commission to prevent its casino license from being revoked due to poor performance and legal battles trying to obtain approval to repair the aging vessel, Pinnacle changed its position and agreed to close the casino and surrender its gaming license to focus on its other St. Louis properties.
Now the company send a letter to 220 employees telling them that they will be laid off when the casino closes with no severance pay or retention packages offered, another change of direction from what employees were originally told.
The casino had told employees that some would be able to transfer to the other properties.
A day after the letter was sent; a company spokesperson said that Pinnacle was rescinding the letter to review the issue at the request of the Union.
Mack Bradley with Pinnacle said that “We haven’t made a final decision” on issues such as severance pay and job placement for employees. Also under discussion is when layoffs would take effect and the actual closing date for the boat.
