Employees from the Hard Rock and Beau Rivage casinos in Biloxi got together with other volunteers to help clean up what they called the their little corner of the world this past week on Earth Day.

As part of Earth Day festivities, people around the world got together to highlight the importance of taking care of the environment and planet earth.

In Southern Mississippi, there were several Earth Day observances. One such cleanup took place on Deer Island.

Deer Island is a barrier island off the coast of Biloxi, Mississippi. It is the closest island to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and consists of approximately 400 acres.

Volunteers working as part of Mississippi Power’s Renew our Rivers program spent a day cleaning up the island.
