Representatives from Black Bear Entertainment, took a tour through Washington County, Maine last week trying to build support to back the company’s efforts to open a casino in Oxford County.

Spokesman, Peter Martin said that the effort in western Maine will have a huge and possibly final impact on the Passamaquoddy Tribe’s efforts to site a casino Down East.

“We believe that if Oxford County fails, it will be game over for Washington County,” Martin said. “However, if we win, we believe the Passamaquoddy Tribe will be granted permission for a casino at the next legislative session. Our win is their win.”

Experts feel that this fall’s vote in the Maine Legislature will be the the most pivotal moment in gaming in the state for many years to come.

The Passamaquoddy Tribe has been trying for years to get approved for a casino in Washington County.

Voters shot down a proposal in back in 2003 by the Passamaquoddy and Penobscot tribes for a $650 million casino.

In 2008, Maine voters rejected a plan for the tribe build a casino in Calais, and last year another plan for a casino in Oxford County was not approved.
