While the Rivers Casino got off to a rough start, struggling to meet revenue projects need to make schedules payments to help fund the new Pittsburg Penguins arena, in recent months the Pittsburg casino has begun to see an upswing in traffic.

Gambling operations brought in $21.6 million in revenue for the month of March, up from February’s $17.2 million.

The casinos executive team told the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board at this morning’s hearing that the addition of 86 table games will really make a difference.

If the expanded gaming license is granted than Rivers Casino will spend $7 million rearranging the slot parlor to make room for 42 blackjack tables, 24 poker tables and 20 tables for craps and roulette.

According to Corey Plummer, vice president of gaming, several high-profile poker tournaments are already being planned.

Including the $16.5 million licensing fee, the Rivers will be spending around $24 million to make table games a reality by July 1.

Executives also told the commission that they will hire 458 additional employees as table games managers and supervisors, dealers, credit clerks, cashiers, security and surveillance personnel and additional beverage servers.
