As the Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway prepares to break ground on Friday April 30, details of the pending construction are released.
The casino complex will be developed by Penn Hollywood Kansas, a 50/50 joint venture between Penn National Gaming and Kansas Speedway Development Corp although under state rules the Kansas Lottery will own the facility.
Under the agreement with the state, Kansas will receive a minimum of 22% of gross revenue while 3% will go to Wyandotte County, 2% to problem gambling and 73% to be divided between the partners.
The $386 million casino overlooking the second turn at the speedway will be the largest gaming facility in the area and sport a race-themed design to capitalize on its address and target audience.
“We’re taking the excitement and nostalgia of Hollywood and melding that with the NASCAR speedway car motif,” said Carl Yaeger of Berger Devine Yaeger Inc., the project architect.
“The signature element will be the Hollywood on the Roof entertainment venue,” the architect said. “The two-story entertainment venue will have a big-screen video wall that wraps around the back, live entertainment and a balcony overlooking the track.”
The casino would flow from the gaming floor segmented into areas resembling movie studio back to a more open entertainment area in the back featuring a beer garden with a view of the speedway.
