Maine’s Secretary of State, Matthew Dunlap, has released a draft of the citizen initiative question that will appear on the November ballot, asking statewide voters to decide if a casino should be built in Oxford County.
The public will have 30 days to comment on the wording and help shape the context that currently reads “Do you want to allow casino gambling in Maine at a single site in Oxford County, subject to local approval, with part of the profits going to specific state, local and tribal programs”.
Earlier this month the Senate voted 26-8 to go along with the House and kill the bill, forcing it to the ballot because it was sent to the Legislature as a citizen initiative resulting from a successful petition drive.
Black Bear Entertainment LLC said it’s confident it can sell its proposal for a four-season resort-casino in Oxford County to Maine voters. It would become the second slots facility in Maine, but would be the only one to offer table games.
