The owners of the Parx Casino and horse racing track in Pennsylvania have been charged with violating environmental laws and regulations.

The state Department of Environmental Protection said Wednesday that the racetrack has a history of violations and noncompliance with state regulations and if it doesn’t clean up its act they will be shut down and face the possibility of losing its gaming license as well as permits allowing the operation of the track and subsequently betting.

According to the DEP, among the pollution violations was manure being washed into storm grates and allowing sewage-laden storm water to flow into a nearby stream.

Under the terms of the order filed, the casino and track operator will be required to undertake several projects to eliminate the pollution issue including creating a water conservation plan, improving the collection and management of storm water on the property, and inspecting their storm water and sanitary sewage systems weekly and must cease violations within the next two weeks.

The violations were found through DEP inspections that uncovered the numerous violations.
