New York’s Sullivan County officials have asked the Seneca Nation of Indians for a meeting to reopen discussions about expanding their gaming operations and establishing a casino in the county.
“I think the timing is right for the economics of both the county and the state to move forward with the project,” County Legislature Chairman Jonathan Rouis said. “This could provide instant stimulus funding that doesn’t require any government funds to make it move forward. It would be a lot of construction jobs and a lot of permanent jobs once the facility is built.”
The president of the Seneca Nation of Indians has responded saying that they would be willing to sit down with local, state and federal lawmakers.
Rouis said the county is “committed to moving forward” with a casino and the Seneca’s is a “viable” proposal.
If an agreement can be reached the tribe would develop the casino under its gaming partner Rotate Black.
The Seneca Catskill Mountains Hotel and Casino has been estimated to have the ability to create over 5,000 jobs throughout the Hudson Valley and generate approximately $160 million in exclusivity fees to state and local governments.
